Blood Curse Page 16

He saw the question on my face. “I’ve seen her. We’re both connected to you from the spiritual realm and are here to help you when you need it. You’re still not safe Adelay, and we are around until you are.”

Panic spiked inside my chest. “What do you mean I’m not safe?”

“Do you think Dalton was the only one that wanted what you have? You have angel’s blood running through your veins Adde, desired by so many inhuman and evil creatures. He was just the beginning. There’s always going to be a fight to hold onto it and keep your life because you aren’t a creature that’s able to protect yourself from them, you are still 99.9% human. Lucky for you, the vampires you’re running with don’t want it.”

Suddenly, I didn’t want to leave Hanover. I wanted to crawl in bed with my parents and never leave their bed.

  “What’s going to happen?”

“I don’t know, Adde. I wasn’t gifted with foreseeing the future. I just know you need to prepare yourself for a bumpy road that will arise in the future. Especially in New Orleans where magic is practiced daily, superstitions are real, and the dead are brought back to roam. People there will fight for what they desire, and if need be, they will use magic to obtain it.”

I was speechless. I wasn’t prepared to experience anything even remotely close to what I had with Dalton Edwards, aka the Loup Garou. There was a soft rap at my door. My parents had already gone to bed; so, I knew it was Sully who had snuck inside the front door I left unlocked for him earlier.

“I’ll be seeing you…” I turned back to see Xander vanish into thin air just as Sully walked into the room.

“Are you ready for tomorrow, princess?”

I shrugged, unsure of what to say while still replaying the warning Xander had just given me. It was a nuclear disaster warning bell going off in my head.

Sully wrapped his arms around me hugging me close. “What’s wrong? I know you’re nervous, but I promise you everything will be okay.”

“I have been seeing and talking to Xander. He visits me from the afterlife.” He pulled away a little bit so he could look me in the eyes. My comment had caught him off guard.

“He has been sent back to earn his way to heaven and is here to help protect me. Tonight, he warned me to watch myself carefully because something is going to happen soon. Did you know that?”

“Would it change anything if I did?”

I looked up at him. “Of course it would. I think when my life is possibly still at stake, I should be aware of it.”

“But what would that do besides upset you and make you more stressed out than you already are? I’m going to take care of you princess, no matter what situation arises. I owe my life to you, and I will ensure nothing happens to you as long as I am breathing.”

“Davin promised me that, too, and that promise was broken just as easily as it was given.”

  “Leave the worrying to me.”

I simply nodded because quite frankly he was right. Worrying would do me no good until a situation actually presented itself.

He pulled me close again kissing the top of my head. “We will be okay, princess. I swear to you.”

All I could do was put my trust in those four words he just professed to me.

“Let’s go to bed, we have a big day tomorrow.” He took my hand, leading us into the guest bedroom where I would be spending my last night in this house, and where my memories would forever be left behind. Something told me that once I left this town, and this house behind, I wouldn’t be coming back and that absolutely terrified me.

The sleek black Mustang rumbled to a halt in front of two towering black iron gates that connected to an equally as tall, and well-aged stone wall. Sully rolled his window down, letting in a blast of light through the darkly tinted window, and a fresh gust of moist outside air, while he punched in a set of numbers on the security code panel that would allow us access to what was hidden from view to outsiders just behind them.

They creaked open slowly, like a looming cryptic gateway that would lead us ultimately to our foreboding future because inside these walls was what was to be our new residing place.

When the dense rows of Spanish moss-covered oak trees cleared off of the paved driveway, a Greek revival style mansion rested in the background.

Welcome to New Orleans Louisiana…My new home, my new life, and a new battle.

Sully killed the engine, looking ahead at the mansion that waited silently for its new owners to inhabit its walls. A smile pursed his lips as he intertwined his hand with mine. I looked down, smiling with nervousness.

  “Welcome home, princess.”
